Always loving, always ready to fight any LGBTQ oppression, and no longer in pain. Her picture here visited me yesterday and now I know why. So grateful to have spent time with Jeanne Cordova and remembering her fighting spirit, she even offered to go back to our alma matter, Bishop Amat, and make some noise about homophobia while she was battling cancer. Honored to have been inspired by this predecessor. Rest in power. We have a new angel. Your help continues after death. I had the privilege of acting in the staged reading of When We Were Outlaws. I hope we can do it again, in Jeanne's honor.

♡ ♡ ♡ to Lynn H. Ballen... a former nun, an activist beyond compare, a butch warrior, a lover and a fighter...her spouse Jeanne Cordova is walking up to the pearly gates ...Los Angeles mourns a tremendous loss today
Ivy Bottini Yesterday at 10:06am · Jeanne Cordova died this morning at 4:30 am. Our community has lost a guard at the gate of hatred and I have lost my Best Butch Bud of over 40 years. There will never be another Lesbian Activist like Jeanne. She was one of a kind. A true innovator. And a hell of a business woman. But right now I am grieving her lost presence, her laughter, her grit, and the love we both had for each other. Here's to you, Jeanne, you will always live in my heart.

My first experience with Jeanne was in reading her brilliant activist writings within various lesbian publications. I was inspired from afar by her honesty, bravery and her history of activism. It wasn't until I met her in person at a Butch Voices conference that I began to know the activist on a more personal level. She and her spouse Lynn embraced us with open arms into their circle and I experienced firsthand how much Jeanne really cared for her chosen family and the lesbian community as a whole. Upon reading her memoirs "When we were Outlaws," I was in awe at how much she has committed herself to human rights. On a personal level, I felt that I had a mentor, comrade and friend. Your bravery inspires me beyond words. Thank you for fighting for us lesbians and queers. You will always be a beacon of light in our community.
